Despite his initial reluctance, Heidi's loving nature and kind heart slowly bring her grandfather out of his reclusive shell and back into the mountain community. However, their newfound happiness is short-lived when Aunt Dete returns and cruelly takes Heidi away to become the companion of a wealthy man's disabled daughter. Heartbroken and determined, the grandfather sets out on a journey to rescue his beloved granddaughter from the clutches of greed and selfishness.
