Almost Holy (2015)
Following the Soviet Union's collapse, Ukraine's institutions endured sweeping transformations, grappling with pervasive corruption and deteriorating infrastructure. The nation's youth faced dire consequences, with many succumbing to homelessness and addiction to dangerous concoctions of cold medicine and alcohol. In the early 2000s, Mariupol pastor Gennadiy Mokhnenko emerged as a force against child homelessness. He controversially rescued street kids, taking them to his Pilgrim Republic rehabilitation center—the largest in the post-Soviet landscape. Gennadiy's relentless, tough-love tactics have polarized opinions, portraying him as both a folk hero and a rogue vigilante. Undeterred by criticism, he remains steadfast in his mission.
