The story takes place in the 1940s. 20-year-old Louisa Mae and her younger sister, Ozo, leave New York, where they have lived for years, and move to their grandmother's farm in Virginia. They rearrange the house according to themselves, buy new furniture. While everything is going well, a coal mining company in the region takes action to take their land. It's time for Louisa Mae and her sister Ozo to fight to protect their beloved land and home in the place they came from.
