A genie imprisoned in a jar (Idris Elba) and scholar Alithea (Tilda Swinton) make a deal during their long conversation in a hotel room in Istanbul. The genie says she will grant Alithea's three wishes if she helps her gain her freedom. However, Alithea's wishes result in a twenty-year jump in time. Meanwhile, unexpected feelings develop between the two.
