They say money rules the world. But sex was discovered before money. Los Angeles, 1948 Private detective Jake Gitts accuses his client, Jake Berman's wife, of adultery. Meanwhile, Berman kills his wife's lover. The discovery that the deceased was Berman's partner and the existence of the inheritance in question make the situation even more suspicious. However, as Detective Gittes investigates the case, he realizes that things get more complicated and that these events are connected to an event he lived a long time ago.
