Supermarket employees Freddie (Tom Matthews) and Frank (James Karen) accidentally release gas while investigating a large pipe in the store's basement containing a body. After Freddie and Frank pass out from the gas, they wake up again and amazing things begin to happen. The gas leaking from the pipe through the vent spread throughout the market. Stuffed toys, guinea pigs frozen for experiments, and the corpse in the freezer suddenly came to life. Frightened, they call When (Clu Gulager), the owner of a grocery store. The corpse is dismembered in the freezer, but they can't kill it yet. As a last resort, they want to burn it in the funeral pyre across the bazaar, but when it is burned, the smoke from the corpse immediately permeates the cemetery close to the morgue. Meanwhile, a group of young travelers having fun in the cemetery suddenly finds themselves among the living dead. Everyone gets out and rushes to the market and the morgue. The dead are slowly spreading around.
