The Princess of Montpensier

The wars of religion between Catholics and Protestants continued in France in the 16th century. The young and beautiful aristocrat Marie and war hero Henri are in love, but Marie's father has promised Prince Montpensier that he will marry his daughter to him. Shortly after the marriage, the prince is ordered to join the war. The prince sends his wife, Marie, to the secluded castle of Champigny to live with his former teacher, Chabanne, and begs her to complete the princess' education. In her unhappy, lonely life in Champigny, Marie tries to forget Henri. When the fate of the war changes, Henri and the heir to the French throne, the Duke of Anjou, come to visit Castle Champigny. Shortly before them, Prince Montpensier arrived at the castle to stay with Marie. In the midst of this difficult situation, Anjou falls in love with the princess and Chabanne cannot resist the young woman's charms.
