Realtor Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy) and his business partner, his wife Sarah (Marsha Thomason), receive a call in the middle of the night. He is looking for a mansion owner named Edward Gracie who wants to sell his property. Jim and Sarah, who smell big money in this business, decide to see the mansion with their own eyes and set off with their two children. A mysterious storm arose during the Evers family's visit to their old mansion. They are greeted by the mansion's eccentric owner, Gracie, and her mysterious butler, Ramsley, by visible and invisible residents. At first, Jim makes fun of Gracie's ghost stories. However, as he begins to discover the secrets of the mansion, he begins to realize that this place is not strange at all. Located on a remote swampy shore, this mansion was built in New Orleans before the American Civil War.
