Rushmore 1998

When Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson, whose screenplay he co-wrote, took a different place in the world of cinema with the 1996 film Bottle Rocket, the film alone brought a new breath to the field of low-budget independent American comedies that had lost its power at that time. The admirably miserable Crazy High Schools, their second film in the genre, once again delves into Anderson and Wilson's beloved world of losers and weirdos. Jason Schwartzman, son of actress Talia Shire and nephew of Frances Ford Coppola, plays Max Fischer, an intellectual and boring quadrupedal. Max is disliked because he is a scholarship student at Rushmore High. While he is on the verge of being expelled from school, he manages to be president in all kinds of extracurricular activities. With bad luck due to his social failure, Max still falls in love with his beautiful teacher (Olivia Williams); identifies troubled but wealthy Herman J. Blume (Bill Murray) as his mentor. This sluggish screwball comedy gave Murray the perfect opportunity to showcase his acting; finally, in a movie, it can be profound, hurtful, and funny at the same time. The rock music of the 1960s, on the other hand, clearly gives the present-day movie the feel of being set in another time.
