When four New York cops are ambushed and killed, the entire agency is put on alert. A killer on the loose and all eyes on the case, Manhattan Police Chief Francis Tierney Sr. (Jon Voight) asks his detective son, Ray Tierney (Edward Norton), to take over the case. Ray's older brother, Francis Tierney Jr. (Noah Emmerich) and his son-in-law, Jimmy Egan (Colin Farrell), reluctantly set off, knowing they're working side by side. While this case may seem like a typical drug operation, when things go wrong, Ray digs deeper and realizes that someone must have warned the drug dealers of the cops' arrival. It must have been made by someone inside. Worse, the evidence begins to point in the most likely direction: her brother and sister-in-law. As questions arise, the situation forces family members to choose between loyalty to the family and commitment to the organization.
