Noruwei no mori 2010
The first film adaptation of one of Haruki Murakami's great works. The themes of the novel of the same name, published by the author in 1987, are love, death, loss of innocence, heartbreak and awakening of sexuality. Tran Anh Hung, the director of The Smell of Green Papaya and the Bicyclist, brings to the screen Song of the Impossible, the romantic melancholy of the Beatles song that also inspired the title of the novel. The film takes place in Tokyo in the late 1960s. The movie is about Toru Watanabe, who is deeply attached to his first love, Naoko. While Watanabe feels the effects of death in every aspect of his life, Midori, a cheerful young girl, enters his life.
