Cello-playing diabetic Jack Friar (Samuel L. Jackson) is a police officer who finds stolen cars. But when a friend asks him to find his missing daughter, he refuses to take a vacation to explore the area where the girl was last seen. He gets in trouble when he helps Miss Warra (Grace Zabriskie), an old woman who collapses in front of her house on the way back from the shop. Because the woman is an accomplice to a gang led by Tyrone (Stellan Skarsgård).
