Talented Hollywood manager Jack (Ben Affleck) has everything a man could want: a successful career, money and a beautiful wife. However, he learns that his wife is cheating on him with his most important client. To explore her feelings, she begins taking journaling lessons from the smug Mr. Primkin. Jack's ideal life is turned upside down when his diary with all its secrets falls into the hands of journalists.
