(2022)Land of Dreams 2021
Iranian immigrant Simin works for a program initiated by the US Census Administration "for security reasons". His job is to go door-to-door meeting ordinary citizens and recording their dreams, unaware of the insidious purposes behind this program. Satisfied with her job and immersed in the dreams told to her, Simin is torn between compassion for those she meets and the need to find the truth. Set in the not-too-distant future, Simin is about to discover what it means to be a free American in an America that has closed its borders and is more isolated than ever. This surreal satire, directed by Iranian-born artists Shirin Neshat and Shoja Azari, inspired by their personal journeys and based on the last script of the late legendary screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière, premiered in the Horizons Extra section of the 2021 Venice Film Festival.
