Working on the Baltimore Fire Department's 49th team, Jack Morrison (Joaquin Phoenix) is passionate about his job. But meeting and marrying the woman of his life and his commitment to his wife's pregnant job begin to hurt him. Trying to save a man engulfed in a fire in a factory warehouse, Jack finds himself in the same situation. It is surrounded by flames, smoke, scattered rubble and bits of rubble. While he struggles to survive among the ruins, efforts to save him continue outside. Fire Chief Mike Kennedy's only goal is to save his best friend. Getting ready for a great adventure that looks like a last resort from the outside, Jack sees his first encounter with the woman who will be the greatest love of his life, the frightening changes that keep him away from home, and the complex emotions he experiences. When his wife becomes pregnant, he takes on a life-saving job, the biggest prize in his profession.
