Stephen Somers wrote and directed this $50 million sci-fi action film shot in Vancouver and the North Pacific. Set in the South China Sea, the story feels like a mix of The Adventures of Poseidon, Alien, and Die Hard. High-armed Trillian (Famke Janssen) is caught stealing jewels and imprisoned on her maiden voyage aboard the luxury cruise ship Argonautica. After the ship's communication system malfunctioned due to a virus, the ship collided with a giant object underwater. Death surrounds them as John Finnegan (Treat Williams) and the others board the Argonautica. The survivor Trillian, Simon Canton (Anthony Heald) and others talk about sea monsters, but Hanover (Wes Studi) doesn't believe them until the toothy, cuttlefish-like creature opens its tentacles and reveals its existence to everyone.
