Buffalo '66 1998

Best known for Palookaville (1996) and The Funeral (1996), actor Vincent Gallo describes this ridiculous drama he wrote, directed and starred in as his masterpiece. This may sound a little arrogant, but it's not entirely wrong. Gallo plays Billy, who kidnaps a teenage girl (Christina Ricci in a miniskirt and gorgeous shoes) ready to follow him on his way to visit his crazy family, who don't know he's spent years in prison. and forces her to act like his wife. Billy told his family that he was an undercover agent working for the government so he stayed away from home. This quirky, low-budget love story with such a fun script deserves praise for the movie-worthy performances of the four lead actors (Ben Gazzara as Billy's perverted dad deserves special praise, and Anjelica Huston as the soccer-hungry mom is simply ridiculous). Mickey Rourke, Jan-Michael Vincent and Rosanna Arquette also add color to the film as guest stars. Gallo, who successfully handled everything for the film, composed the music and used his family's home in Buffalo as the main setting for the film, ironically looks at relationships and disappointments through a variety of visual techniques and imagery.
