Action takes place in the UK during the reign of Queen Elizabeth. The story focuses on a question that has plagued many intellectuals for hundreds of years: Was someone else behind English literature's greatest name, William Shakespeare? Could some literary works have come from someone else's pen? After experts devote themselves to the subject, dozens of books have been written and theories have been produced, Roland Emmerich is now asking the same question of English literature with the movie Anonymous. Reflecting the scandalous politics of the period, the arrogant and power-hungry state of the royal family is "staged" in London.
