Steve Buscemi, one of the most popular independent film actors, made his directorial debut in 1996 with The House of Trees. Animal Factory is a gripping prison drama that follows this first experience. 21-year-old Ron's biggest fear is being raped after getting into the drug business. For protection, he takes refuge in Ear, another prisoner who rules the prison like his own kingdom. Over time, Ron begins to see Earl's true face and realizes that perhaps he is the one to watch out for. The cast of Animal Factory, which received positive reviews at Sundance, includes names such as Mickey Rourke and Tom Arnold in small but impressive roles.
