A day full of unexpected events awaits John McLaughlin, who is patrolling Manhattan with his fellow policemen. He is one of the first teams to arrive on the scene after the attack on the World Trade Center. McLaughlin and Gimeno are among the five members. But when the towers collapse, they are buried under the rubble. McLaughlin and Jimeno miraculously survived. But they were trapped between piles of concrete and metal 6.5 meters below the debris of the collapsed towers. Although they can't see each other, they know from the sounds of the wreckage that the others are alive. For the next 12 hours, McLaughlin and Jimeno try to survive by telling each other about their families, their lives in the police force, and their hopes and disappointments.
