The Reaping 2007
Katherine Winter (Hilary Swank) doesn't believe in miracles; believes the facts. Katherine, a former pastor, turned her back on religion when she lost her daughter and husband while doing missionary work in Sudan. Now he seeks answers to his questions not with prayer, but with scientific research. As a college professor, he is summoned from all over the world to inspect weeping statues, saint-like stains on walls, bleeding palms as he begins to fight on the front lines to bring a series of supposed miracles to market. Until now, there is not a single divine miracle that he has not been able to solve. But when a small-town teacher, Doug Blackwell (David Morrissey), seeks Katherine's help in illuminating a series of strange events that the townspeople believe came from God, Katherine and her partner Ben (Idris Elba) realize that sometimes miracles can be frightening. The line between faith and superstition is dangerous, they will learn how thin it is. Hidden among the swamps and woods of Louisiana, Haven is a city where the rules of logic have been rewritten. The child dies and the river turns crimson; this is just the beginning of the ten biblical scourges that befell the city. For the first time in her professional career, Katherine cannot explain these phenomena with science. The townspeople believe that a mysterious boy named Lauren McConnell (AnnaSophia Robb) is bringing God's wrath on their doorstep. However, Katherine sees in this little girl, who is seen as a harbinger of evil, a missing child who needs her help. As Lauren is drawn into the dark heart of mysteries, Katherine increasingly discovers her role in a conspiracy that will plunge the world into darkness.
