Respected journalist John Klein returns from buying a new house with his wife, Mary. His wife, who is driving the car, sees a creature he cannot understand and loses control. Seriously injured, Mary dies in hospital a few days later. He photographed what he saw before he died. Two years pass. Still unable to shake off the pain of his wife's death, John leaves town to work, but finds himself in a town 600 km from where he should be. There, John meets policewoman Connie Parker and learns that some people around her are hearing strange noises and seeing things they can't understand. Then, thinking that these events have something to do with the death of his wife, he begins to investigate.
