Nathan Algren is a senior captain in the US Army who always draws attention with his cocky attitude. In the 1870s, he receives an invitation from Japan and is asked to provide military training to the first army of the Empire of Japan. Although the Japanese army tries to keep up with modern warfare methods, it also maintains the old samurai culture. However, Algren is rescued by the leader of the samurai as a result of a bad accident, and from that day he begins to meet the real samurai culture. Influenced by the samurai culture, Algren will eventually learn to act like a Samurai warrior and must bear the brunt of the important decisions he must make.
