Linda Sinclair (Julianne Moore) is a 40-year-old single woman who teaches English in the town of Kingston. His simple life takes an unexpected turn when former student Jason Sherwood (Michael Angarano) returns to Kingston after trying to be a screenwriter in New York. Linda decides to present a play written by Jason, who decides to quit art after his father (Greg Kinnear) forces him to face reality and attend law school under his drama teacher Carl Kapinas (Nathan Lane). Leaving her comfort zone, Linda begins to take more risky steps. With her reputation and career in jeopardy, Linda searches for a way out of the remnants of her former ideal life.
