The 39 Steps (2008)

Richard Hannay, a mining engineer on leave from the African colonies, finds the social whirl of London remarkably uninspiring. His holiday takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious secret agent intrudes into his hotel room, leaving him with a cryptic notebook foretelling the onset of World War I. Suddenly thrust into a perilous game of cat and mouse, Hannay becomes the target of both German operatives and British authorities. With ruthless adversaries closing in, he is compelled to decipher the Roman numeral code, believing it holds the key to averting disaster.
