Sleeping Sickness (2011)

For two decades, Ebbo and Vera Velten have navigated life across the African continent, driven by Ebbo's dedication to eradicating sleeping sickness. Yet, Vera finds herself adrift in Yaounde's expatriate circles, longing for her daughter, Helen, studying in Germany. Ebbo faces a profound dilemma: abandon his life's work or lose Vera. His apprehension about returning to a homeland now unfamiliar intensifies daily.

Years later, Alex Nzila, a French-Congolese doctor, arrives in Cameroon to assess a development initiative. His return to the continent unearths not progress, but a fractured, spectral figure. Ebbo, a phantom of his former self, eludes Alex's scrutiny, leaving a trail of unanswered questions.
