Shayda (2023)
In the sanctuary of an Australian women's shelter, Shayda, an Iranian émigré, seeks solace with her young daughter, Mona. Having escaped a fraught marriage to Hossein and initiated divorce proceedings, Shayda endeavors to create a semblance of stability for Mona. The promise of Nowruz, the Persian New Year, fuels her hopes for a liberated future. However, this fragile equilibrium shatters when a court grants Hossein visitation rights, reintroducing him into their lives and igniting Shayda's deepest fear: the potential abduction of Mona back to Iran, a threat that looms large over their newfound freedom. Their future hangs precariously in the balance.
