"Tatsuo Hasegawa" is a Japanese military character played by Joe Odagiri, who comes with his family to visit his grandfather in Japanese-occupied Korea in Manchuria and Korea. She meets the Kim family's son "Jun-shik Kim" as a good runner, but whose father is allegedly the bomb that killed his grandfather. Tatsuo is accepted into the University of Berlin as a successful athlete, but beats Tatsuo in the Olympic qualification competition. After being disqualified by the Japanese committee, Tatsuo and Jun-shik take part in the Soviet-Japanese struggle in Nomonhan and are then immersed in a tragic and true story from Stalingrad to the German fortifications in Normandy.
