Anton is a doctor who lives in an idyllic Danish town and travels by train to work in a refugee camp in Africa. These two very different worlds confront him and his family with a conflict, forcing them to choose between revenge and forgiveness. Anton and his wife Marianne and their two sons separate and discuss the possibility of divorce. Their eldest son, Elias, aged ten, was harassed at school by the homeless. It all comes to an end when Christian is protected by his new son, who has moved out of London with his father, Klaus. After Christian's mother lost her battle with cancer and Christian was deeply saddened by her death, Elias and Christian quickly bonded. But their friendship is tested and their lives in danger when Christian pulls Elias into a plot of revenge with tragic consequences. Ultimately, their families must help them cope with the complexity of human emotion, pain, and empathy.
