Five Minutes of Heaven 2009
Reflecting on Northern Ireland's recent turbulent history, the film reveals that the road to the future is through confronting its own past and began in the city of Lurgan in 1975. Alistair Little (Liam Neeson), 17, a pro-British Ulster Volunteer, kills 19-year-old Catholic Jim Griffin (Gerard Jordan). Jim's 11-year-old brother, Joe Griffin (James Nesbitt), is a witness to the murder. Two weeks later, Alistair is arrested and sent to prison. 33 years pass. Alistair Little cannot forget the murder, despite his time in prison. Joe Griffin, the brother of the murdered Jim, also did not forget that day. He wants to kill the man who killed his brother and go to heaven. Years later, they would meet on a TV show. Alistair Little makes peace with himself on his own conscience. At the last moment, Joe Griffin gives up. Later, the murderer meets his murdered brother. But will they be able to make peace with their past?
