Young car thief Jesse shoots a police officer while driving to Los Angeles in a car he stole from Las Vegas. Trying to escape to Mexico as a result of this incident, Jesse wants to take the French student Monica, whom he met and fell in love with in a few days, with him. As the police approach them, the escape continues and Monica, who sees Jesse's crime in the newspaper, reports Jesse to the police.
