Augustine (2012)
In the opulent salons of Belle Époque France, a psychological drama unfolds. Augustine, a nineteen-year-old patient diagnosed with "hysteria," becomes the unwitting centerpiece of Professor Charcot's mesmerizing hypnosis demonstrations. Her position shifts, however, as the line blurs between scientific observation and burgeoning fascination. Augustine's journey takes her from being a mere subject of study to an object of intense, and perhaps unsettling, desire, within the gilded cage of Parisian society. The film explores the complex interplay of power, performance, and the awakening of forbidden longings.
