In England in the 1840s, the acclaimed but overlooked fossil hunter Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) works alone on the steep southern coastline. Against the backdrop of her famous discoveries, she is now looking for common fossils to sell to tourists to support herself and her sick mother. When a wealthy visitor entrusts Mary with the care of his wife, Saoirse Ronan, she cannot afford to decline his offer.
