All Quiet on the Western Front 1930

Nothing New on the Western Front is a classic based on the novel “Im Western nichts Neues” by Erich Maria Remarque, which reveals the meaninglessness of war and argues that everyone loses in war. The film reveals in a striking way how the German youth, who voluntarily participated in the First World War with the militarist-nationalist feelings imposed on them by their bigoted teachers, were crushed under the weight and cruelty of the war, and the deep wounds inflicted on their souls by the irreversible decision they made even if they were saved physically. Both the movie and the book drew the reaction of many nationalists at the time they were published, and the screening of the movie was banned in Italy and Germany; The book, on the other hand, was burned during the "Book Burning Act" in 1933 in Nazi Germany. The film also won Oscars for best director and best picture.
