In the 1940s, a 9-year-old Aboriginal boy in Australia arrives at a remote monastery in the dead of night, overseen by a mysterious nun (Cate Blanchett). The presence of the child disturbs the delicate balance of a world grappling with spiritual struggles and the cost of survival.
The New Boy was written and directed by Warwick Thornton, an Australian cinematographer/filmmaker known for his work on Samson & Delilah, The Darkside, We Don't Need a Map, and Sweet Country. The film, produced by Cate Blanchett, Lorenzo De Maio, Georgie Pym, Kath Shelper, and Andrew Upton, premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
