Jamie Reyes, along with his friends Paco and Brenda, is heading home from school when they encounter a mysterious bug on their way. Unbeknownst to them, the bug has been buried in an unused lot. Intrigued, Reyes takes the bug home and tries to understand what it is. That night, the bug comes to life and implants itself into Jamie's spine. From then on, Jamie possesses a shell costume that enhances his speed and strength, thanks to the bug. Additionally, this costume allows him to generate weapons, wings, or shields.
